DEPARTMENT OF AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT AND FISH PATHOLOGY

 

 

About the Department

The Department of Aquatic Environment and Fish Pathology is one of three Departments of the Faculty. We take pivotal responsibility in teaching relevant subjects to the students of the fisheries Faculty and other Faculties of the University such as the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Faculty of Natural resources and Environment, Faculty of Biotechnology, and Faculty of Animal Science. We also provide training courses in managing water quality and fish disease control.

Human resources and teaching subjects

There are seven staff in the Department, including four lecturers, one technical and two researchers. Most staff have studied MSc and/or PhD in England, Australia, Japan, Germany, Belgium, and Denmark. The department takes the responsibility of teaching 20 subjects to the students in the University.

Research activities and publication

The Staff of the Department have actively joined in diverse activities of research and transferring technologies nationally and internationally. 

Several international corporations in research and training conducted such as:

– Mekarn projects – incorporation with Sweden

– Project on disease control for fish culture in Northern mountainous provinces (Vietnam) – incorporation with Australia

– Project on using herb products as an alternative to Antibiotics in aquaculture (CIRAS) – in corporation with France

 National projects on training and technology transfering

– Projects on promoting culture and trade of Indigenous speciality freshwater species in Hai Duong, Hung Yen, Yen Bai, Son La, Thai Nguyen, Lao Cai…

– Short training courses for farmers in water quality management and disease fish control offline or through technical videos.

Other activities:

– Conducted and joined workshops and seminars in Vietnam and abroad on relevant subjects

– Guided research groups of students to reach top awards such as Research awards of the Faculty, University, Vifotex award, and National student award.

Worked as a consultant in FSPSII project on the control of fish diseases, aquaculture extension, fish farming, and aquaculture food safety in Quang Ninh, Hue, Son La, Lao Cai, and Darlak.

– Worked as a consultant in POSMA project on the transportation of live animals in aquaculture

– Worked as a consultant for the Agricultural Extension Program conducted National Agricultural Extension Center (NAEC).

– Worked as consultants in projects on the protection of aquaculture resources, funded by organisations in the EU, DFID

– Joined consultancy projects for farmers through the program on the VTC16 channel.

– Joined in projects on assessments of the development of the countryside with the involvement of residents and authorities
