- Development History
Faculty of Fisheries was newly established in March 2015 on the basis of separation from the old Faculty of Animal Science and Aquaculture. Derived from the Department of the Specialized Livestock Department – Faculty of Animal Science and Aquaculture, the Department of Aquaculture was established in 2004 and took over training in Aquaculture courses. Based on the development of the aquaculture industry and expanding the training scale of the university, a new major discipline – Aquatic Pathology was requested and the Department of Aquatic Environment and fish pathology was established in 2012. By 2015, Faculty of Fisheries was established to develop the scale of training, scientific research and technology transfer to meet the development needs of Vietnam’s seafood industry in general and the North’s seafood industry in particular. Up to now, the Faculty of Fisheries has developed three departments: Aquaculture, Aquatic Nutrition and feed, and Aquatic Environments and Fish Pathology.
- Mandates
Training
The main task of the Faculty is to train high-quality human resources at various levels to serve research and technology transfer programs to develop the aquaculture and fisheries sectors of the country and northern region of Vietnam. Faculty has long excelled in activities and was considered as a leader in Aquaculture and fisheries in Vietnam. Undergraduate training in Aquaculture, Fish Pathology. Postgraduate training: Master in Aquaculture, the Faculty is completing to open a doctoral program in Aquaculture from 2023.
Research and transfer of science and technology:
+ Implement research projects on aquaculture techniques, nutrition and aqua feed, water environment, aquatic organisms, aquatic resource management, biotechnology application in aquaculture, disease diagnosis and t of aquatic health management.
+ Transfer of advanced techniques and farming technologies to farmers and production facilities and businesses for the development of aquaculture and fishing. The Faculty has successfully researched and made many scientific advances that are very effective in production in the fisheries sector, such as techniques for the artificial reproduction of river cichlids, and techniques for disease diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases

The experimental producer has an entire system of large and small tanks, biological filtration systems, artificial spawning systems, hot and cold water systems, etc., which can best serve seed production. In addition, brackish water testing systems have also been built to serve the research scale.
System of experimental ponds: Currently, the Department of Fisheries is in charge of managing and using 13 large and small ponds, including two settling ponds and storage ponds; 8 implementations of the experimental model, demonstration, and rearing between broodstock and seed production.
